Description

Walk Santa Teresa with a local guide: tram ride, viewpoints tied to Rio's founding, historic museums and a toast at Selarón Steps. More than a tour, a conversation about the city.
Santa Teresa isn't just a pretty neighborhood to photograph — it's a piece of Rio's history that most visitors never really get to know. On this 3-hour tour, you'll walk its streets alongside a local guide, with plenty of time to talk, ask questions, and discover what usually gets left out of the traditional routes.

We start with a brief introduction at the tram station, before boarding the iconic Santa Teresa tram. Once we reach Largo dos Guimarães, I'll share the history of the neighborhood and of the tram itself — one of Rio's most traditional forms of transportation. From there, we walk to the small viewpoint on Rua Filadélfia, our first glimpse of the city below.

We then continue to Mirante do Rato Molhado, where, with Guanabara Bay laid out before us, we talk about the founding of the city of Rio de Janeiro and the war that expelled the French from the territory — the story behind the landscape in front of you.

Next, we visit the neighborhood's museums: the Benjamin Constant House, where we talk about the Proclamation of the Republic, and the Laurinda Santos Lobo House, a key figure in Santa Teresa's cultural identity. We also visit Chácara do Céu, home to one of Rio's most significant art collections, and pass through Parque Glória Maria — once Laurinda Santos Lobo's own home.

We close at the Selarón Steps with a toast and a reflection on the true symbol of Rio de Janeiro — and, for anyone wanting to keep the evening going, a few tips on where to find the city's best live music.

More than a sightseeing tour, this is a chance to experience Rio the way locals do — at your own pace, unhurried, with good stories along the way.
