Explore the museum's central theme, "Nature, Humans, Harmony," through three main threads: "The Symphony of Evolution," "The Picture Scroll of Life," and "The Historical Epic of Civilization." Wander through ten permanent exhibition halls, including Mysterious Beginnings, The River of Life, The Ways of Evolution, Colorful Lives, Ecology, Treasures on Earth, and The Shanghai Story.

Admire over 290,000 specimens and artifacts, spanning botany, zoology, paleontology, geology, and anthropology. See more than 11,000 specimens from all seven continents, including nearly 1,000 rare species. Highlights include a 22-meter-long skeleton of a Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis, rare species such as the Yellow River mammoth, giant salamander, giant panda, and Yangtze alligator, and a vast array of over 150,000 plant specimens and a large collection of mineral and geological samples.
