Description
Depart from Edinburgh with our tour guides and embark on an adventure on the waters of the River Forth, visiting Inchcolm Island with us, where we'll discover a 12th-century medieval abbey.
AN ADVENTURE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Embark with our team to sail the waters of the Firth of Forth on an unforgettable cruise, where you can discover its fascinating history, fauna, and flora firsthand. Experience the thrill of a true sailor sailing its waters and disembarking on the legendary Inchcolm Island. There, we'll explore the history of its 12th-century abbey and its fortifications, all framed by the stunning views of its beaches.
WHAT DOES THE ACTIVITY INCLUDE?
We've prepared this experience so you don't have to worry about a thing!
Our tour guides will be waiting for you with a blue and orange umbrella to start the activity in front of the Statue of the Duke of Wellington, at the main entrance of the Hotel Balmoral, at 10:30 AM.
From there, we'll walk to nearby Waverley Station, where we'll take an 11-minute train to South Queensferry, the most environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
Once there, we'll enjoy a pleasant walk to the cruise port, where we'll learn about the history of this charming town before boarding the Maid of the Forth.
On board, we'll have all the amenities, such as bar service, heated indoor areas, and restrooms.
The cruise ship will be accompanied by explanations from our tour guides so that you don't miss any details of everything that can be seen from the deck, including the history of the three magnificent bridges that cross the Firth of Forth.
After having the opportunity to see the colonies of resident gray seals from the boat or, depending on the season, to spot puffins, cormorants, and, with a bit of luck, dolphins, porpoises, or a whale, we'll disembark on Inchcolm Island.
On the island, we'll have 1 hour and 30 minutes for our tour guides to take us inside Inchcolm Abbey, where we'll learn about the exciting medieval history of this religious building and from whose bell tower we can enjoy panoramic views of its coasts. We will also visit the Hermit's Cell, which served as a refuge for kings in a shipwreck.
There will be plenty of time for participants to explore the island and discover every corner, and those who wish to can take the opportunity to have a picnic.
The boat will pick us up on the island, beginning the return journey to the mainland. During the trip, you can enjoy the ride by asking the tour guides all your questions, walking around the deck and taking additional photographs, or simply relaxing in the interior area, where the bar will be the scene of lively conversations until we reach the cruise port.
Once in South Queensferry, you can choose to stay in the village or return to the capital accompanied by our tour guides.
We'll board at Dalmeny train station and, after a short ride back to Edinburgh Waverley Station, the tour guides will end the sightseeing tour, but not before giving you all the directions to get to your accommodation.
See you next time and have a safe return trip!
