Leave Dubai's skyscrapers behind and head inland to Al Ain, the UAE's Garden City and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Your private driver-guide picks you up from your Dubai hotel for the scenic 1.5 to 2-hour drive through the desert, sharing stories about the Emirates' history and Al Ain's role as the hometown of the nation's founding father, Sheikh Zayed.
The day is planned around three main stops rather than squeezing in as many sights as possible, so there is time to enjoy each one. Because the tour is private, you can also linger longer at the zoo or cut a stop short. Just let your guide know.
Start at Al Jahili Fort, a striking mud-brick fortress built in the late 19th century. Walk through its courtyard and towers and learn how it protected the region's palm groves and water sources.
Next, wander into Al Ain Oasis, a vast date-palm plantation with thousands of trees. Follow the shaded walkways and see the ancient falaj channels that still carry water to the farms today.
After a lunch break (at your own expense), the highlight of the day awaits at Al Ain Zoo, one of the largest wildlife parks in the region. With your entry ticket included, explore at your own pace: watch giraffes and zebras on the African savanna, see big cats, rhinos and hippos, and spot desert species such as the Arabian oryx and sand gazelle. Optional experiences such as giraffe feeding or the bird show can be added on site (extra cost, subject to schedule).
In the late afternoon, relax in the air-conditioned vehicle on your private transfer back to Dubai, arriving in time for an evening at leisure.
