Description
Discover Otavalo on a full-day tour of nature and culture. Visit the Cuicocha Lagoon, the Peguche Waterfall, explore a weaving workshop, and stroll through the famous Plaza de los Ponchos!
Discover the essence of Otavalo on a full-day tour that combines Andean landscapes, ancestral traditions, crafts, and one of the most famous indigenous markets in Ecuador.
We'll leave Quito and head north, crossing the landscapes of the Ecuadorian highlands. During the tour, we'll make a stop to taste bizcochos, one of the most representative flavors of this area.
We'll continue on to the impressive Cuicocha Lagoon, located inside an ancient volcanic crater and surrounded by mountains. You'll have time to take in the landscape, learn more about the origin of the lake on our boat ride, and enjoy one of the most special settings in Imbabura Province.
We'll then head to Peguche, a Kichwa community known for keeping its traditions alive and its close relationship with textile making.
Here we'll visit the Peguche Waterfall, a place surrounded by vegetation and of great natural and ancestral importance for the indigenous communities of the area. We'll take a hike to reach the waterfall and enjoy its surroundings.
The experience will continue with a visit to a weaving workshop, where we'll learn about the work of local artisans up close. We'll discover how textiles are made, learn about traditional weaving techniques, and learn about part of the process behind the colors, designs, and garments characteristic of Otavalo culture.
Finally, we'll arrive in Otavalo to visit the famous Plaza de los Ponchos, one of the most recognized artisan markets in Ecuador. You will have time to browse its stalls and discover textiles, ponchos, handicrafts, jewelry, souvenirs, and numerous products made by local artisans. It will also be an excellent opportunity to interact with the vendors and, if you wish, take home a souvenir of this experience.
At the end of the visit, we will begin our drop-off to Quito.
More than a visit to Otavalo Market, this tour is designed for you to get to know different facets of the area: its landscapes, flavors, communities, and artisan traditions.
An ideal experience for those who want to discover the culture of Otavalo while exploring some of the most iconic landscapes of northern Ecuador.
