Originally built as a royal palace in the 14th century, the building became a prison when the royal family moved residence. During the French Revolution the prison was known as "the antechamber to the guillotine."
Explore the cells of criminals and the tombs of heroes of the French Revolution. Discover the chapel that was once the prison cell where Marie Antoinette was held. See the largest remaining medieval hall in Europe, the Salle des Gens d’Armes.
Choose to be accompanied by an histopad, and go back in time using this augmented reality tool. Explore the medieval rooms, as well as the spaces that have now disappeared.

The Conciergerie is closed May 1 and December 25
The last entrance is 30 minutes before closing time
The Histopad is distributed to visitors until 4:15 PM
Free entrance: The first Sunday of January, February, March, November and December and during European Heritage Days (3rd weekend of September each year)
