Description
Guests will explore traditional crafts, contemporary African art, and lively markets while interacting with locals and experiencing the rhythms, flavors, and traditions that shape everyday life.
The tour begins at the National Museum of Ghana, where travelers will discover Ghana’s rich cultural heritage. The museum showcases traditional artifacts, ancient tools, textiles, royal regalia, and historical exhibits that tell the story of Ghana from prehistoric times through the colonial era to independence. Guests will gain deeper insight into Ghana’s ethnic diversity, traditional lifestyles, and artistic expressions.
Next, we continue to the bustling Makola Market, one of the most famous markets in Ghana. Here, travelers will experience the true rhythm of daily life in Accra. The market is full of colorful stalls selling fabrics, spices, food ingredients, cosmetics, and handmade goods. Visitors will see local traders in action, learn about traditional foods and ingredients, and witness the energy and business spirit that drives this historic commercial hub.
The journey then takes us to the Kwame
Nkrumah Memorial Park, dedicated to Ghana’s first president and independence leader, Kwame Nkrumah. Travelers will explore the beautiful park, visit the mausoleum where Nkrumah is buried, and learn about Ghana’s independence struggle and the vision that shaped the nation. The museum inside the park displays personal belongings, photographs, and historical documents connected to Nkrumah’s life and leadership.
The final stop is the Accra Arts Centre (Centre for National Culture), a lively marketplace for traditional Ghanaian crafts. Travelers will have the opportunity to see and shop for handmade items such as kente cloth, beads, wood carvings, paintings, drums, and souvenirs. Local artisans often demonstrate their craft, giving visitors a chance to interact, learn about the meaning behind the designs, and support local creators.
Experience Accra like a local with an exciting trotro ride through the busy streets of Accra. Trotros are the most popular form of public transportation in Ghana and are an important part of everyday city life. During this short ride, travelers will get a real feel of the city’s rhythm as they travel alongside locals, hear the calls of the mate announcing destinations, and observe the lively street scenes along the way.
The ride leads to the iconic Independence Square, one of Ghana’s most important national landmarks. Also known as Black Star Square, this historic site is where national celebrations, parades, and independence events take place. Visitors will have the chance to take photos of the famous Black Star monument, learn about Ghana’s independence story, and enjoy the open coastal views near the Atlantic Ocean.
