Yogyakarta: Herbal Hair Oil and Soap Making Workshop

Craft herbal hair oil and natural soap in a peaceful Yogyakarta village. Learn traditional plant knowledge from a local herbalist and take home handmade products and learning materials.
Begin your experience with a welcome drink upon arrival in the village. You’ll receive a printed module during the workshop, and a digital module will be sent after the session for future reference.

Start with an introduction to nine herbal ingredients, including locally used plants such as moringa, alongside complementary herbs like rosemary and peppermint, which are commonly incorporated into natural hair care today. Select and crush the herbs by hand, then learn the hot infusion method used in natural oil preparation.

As traditional infusion takes several hours, a pre-infused oil is prepared so you can take home a finished bottle, while also bringing home the oil you create during the workshop.

Next, explore six natural soap ingredients, with a focus on plants traditionally used in Indonesia. Observe a safe demonstration of lye preparation (cooled lye prepared in advance), then make your own soap using one selected ingredient: turmeric, moringa, or lemongrass.

By the end of the session, you’ll leave not only with handmade products, but also with a deeper connection to plants, process, and place—taking home a small piece of village life in Yogyakarta.
