Description
Experience Shinrinyoku in Nara's first certified therapeutic forest, scientifically proven to promote relaxation. Enjoy a guided walk, waterfall, tea time, aroma spray making, and hammock relaxation.
Step away from the crowds and immerse yourself in the peaceful forests of Yoshino, where nature, history, and wellness come together in a truly unique experience.
This guided Shinrin-yoku (Forest Bathing) experience invites you to slow down and engage all five senses as you walk through one of Japan’s most treasured landscapes. Listen to the gentle sounds of the forest, breathe in the fresh aroma of cedar and cypress trees, feel the breeze on your skin, and reconnect with nature at your own pace.
During the tour, you will walk along a certified Forest Therapy Road with a local guide who will introduce the natural and cultural heritage of Yoshino. Along the way, you can relax in a hammock beneath the trees, enjoy a peaceful tea break surrounded by nature, and create your own original aroma spray inspired by the scents of the forest. This is not a hike focused on distance or speed, but a chance to recharge your mind and body through mindful immersion in nature.
Yoshino has been regarded as a special place for over 1,300 years. It appears in Japan’s oldest historical and literary works, including the Kojiki, Nihon Shoki, and Man'yōshū. The beautiful scenery of the Yoshino River, which originates from the mountains of Ōdaigahara, has inspired emperors, poets, and pilgrims for centuries. Yoshino is also known as one of Japan’s most important sacred sites for mountain asceticism and spiritual practice.
Perhaps people long ago already sensed what modern science has now confirmed—that spending time in these forests promotes relaxation and well-being.
Yoshino is also famous for its 400-year history of sustainable forestry. The magnificent forests you see today have been carefully cultivated and protected by generations of local people, creating some of Japan’s most beautiful woodland landscapes.
In 2012, Yoshino became the first location in Nara Prefecture to be officially certified as a Forest Therapy Base by the Forest Therapy Society of Japan. This certification was granted following scientific physiological and psychological studies that verified the healing effects of the forest environment. Forest Therapy aims to support physical and mental well-being, reduce stress, and promote preventive health through meaningful interaction with nature.
Join us for a refreshing journey through the forests of Yoshino and discover why this remarkable place has been cherished as a source of healing, inspiration, and renewal for centuries.
