Day 1: Mombasa / Diani / Watamu / Malindi – Tsavo East National Park

Begin your two-day coastal safari with an early morning pickup from your hotel or residence in Mombasa, Diani Beach, Kilifi, Watamu, or Malindi. Travel along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway, journeying inland as the coastal scenery gradually gives way to the vast wilderness of Tsavo East National Park.

Upon arrival at either Bachuma Gate or Sala Gate, enter the park and embark on your first exciting game drive. Tsavo East is renowned for its expansive open plains, making wildlife viewing exceptionally rewarding. As you drive through the park towards your lodge, keep an eye out for the famous red elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, impalas, waterbucks, lesser kudus, cheetahs, and a variety of other wildlife that call this remarkable ecosystem home.

Around lunchtime, arrive at your selected lodge or tented camp for check-in and a delicious lunch while enjoying views of the surrounding wilderness. After some time to relax, head out again in the late afternoon for another game drive, exploring some of the park’s most productive wildlife areas, including the renowned Aruba Dam. This important water source attracts large numbers of animals, offering excellent opportunities to observe elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and an abundance of birdlife in their natural habitat.

As the day draws to a close, return to your lodge while enjoying the breathtaking African sunset over Tsavo’s iconic red-earth plains. Spend the evening unwinding with dinner and an overnight stay at your chosen accommodation, surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the African wilderness.
