Enjoy a profound and authentic experience during one of Mexico's most iconic celebrations: Day of the Dead in Oaxaca. This experience has been designed to help you connect with the cultural, spiritual, and symbolic significance of this tradition from a respectful and meaningful perspective.
The tour starts at 6:00 pm at our meeting point at Calle Melchor Ocampo 1015, in downtown Oaxaca. You will be welcomed in a specially decorated space featuring a traditional Day of the Dead altar, where you will learn about the meaning of each of its elements within the Oaxacan worldview.
During this time, you will enjoy a traditional dinner around the altar, featuring tamales and hot chocolate, in an intimate atmosphere that reflects the essence of this celebration. In addition, those who wish to can bring a photograph of a loved one to include in a symbolic offering, accompanied by traditional items such as bread, fruit, and chocolate, creating a space for remembrance and connection.
The experience continues with a culinary activity where you will participate in decorating Mitla-style pan de muerto (bread of the dead) while learning about its significance within the festivities. This activity is complemented by a guided tasting of Oaxacan mezcal, allowing you to appreciate the richness of this ancestral drink.
Afterward, the group will be taken to the area around the Panteón General, where you will encounter a special setting with candles and paper lanterns that evoke the symbolism of the tradition, setting the stage for this unique experience.
Later, you will be transferred to the Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán pantheon, one of the most iconic sites during this period, where you will experience a unique atmosphere filled with light, color, and tradition.
At the end of the experience, around 12:00 p.m., a transfer back to your hotel within the city of Oaxaca is included, ensuring your comfort and safety.
