Description

Embark on a 12-day trek around Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world. Enjoy a cultural immersion in Hindu and Buddhist villages, and cross the Larkya La Pass.
Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 | Kathmandu–Arughat–Machha Khola (869 m)
Drive ~140 km (6–7 h) via the Trishuli River to Arughat (550 m), then along the Budhi Gandaki to Machha Khola (“Fish River”). Overnight in teahouse. Meals: B/L/D.

Day 2 | Machha Khola–Khorla Besi–Jagat (1,340 m)
Follow the Budhi Gandaki to Khorla Besi (970 m) and Tatopani hot springs. Cross suspension bridges and climb to Jagat, the Manaslu Conservation Area checkpoint. Trek: 22 km, 6–7 h.

Day 3 | Jagat–Sridibas–Nyak Phedi–Deng (1,860 m)
Ascend via Salleri and Gurung village Sridibas. Cross the river to Nyak Phedi’s bamboo forests, then follow the river to Deng. Trek: 19 km, 5–6 h.

Day 4 | Deng–Rana–Namrung (2,630 m)
Pass Rana (1,980 m) and Bihi Phedi farmland. Reach Namrung, a checkpoint with views of Manaslu, Himal Chuli, and Saula Himal. Trek: 18 km, 5–6 h.

Day 5 | Namrung–Lihi–Lho (3,180 m)
Cross potato and barley fields to Lihi (2,860 m) for Manaslu vistas. Continue past yak pastures to Lho, a Gurung village with monasteries. Trek: 10 km, 4–5 h.

Day 6 | Lho–Syala–Samagaun (3,530 m)
Walk through pine and birch to Syala (3,480 m) with sunrise views of Ngadi Chuli. Continue to Samagaun, a major stop with stone houses and monasteries. Trek: 17 km, 5–6 h.

Day 7 | Rest in Samagaun (3,530 m)
Acclimatize with short hikes around Budhi Gandaki valley. Visit 200-year-old Pungyen Gompa and enjoy views of Ngadi Chuli and Annapurna II.

Day 8 | Samagaun–Samdo (3,875 m)
Follow Mani walls through Tibetan-style villages to Samdo, the last permanent settlement before Tibet. Trek: 8 km, 3–4 h.

Day 9 | Samdo–Larkya Bazaar–Dharamsala (4,460 m)
Pass yak caravans to Larkya Bazaar with peaks in view, then descend to Dharamsala (Larkya Phedi) for final acclimatization. Trek: 10 km, 4–5 h.

Day 10 | Dharamsala–Larkya La Pass (5,160 m)–Bhimthang (3,720 m)
Start early for the trek’s highest, toughest climb to Larkya La Pass, with sweeping views of Himlung Himal and Ngadi Chuli. Descend via moraine fields to Bhimthang. Trek: 24 km, 8–9 h.

Day 11 | Bhimthang–Yak Kharka–Gho–Tilije (2,300 m)
Pass Yak Kharka (4,050 m), descend through rhododendron forests, cross Dudh Khola, and reach Tilije. Trek: 18 km, 6–7 h.

Day 12 | Tilije–Besisahar–Kathmandu (1,400 m)
Drive through farmland and river valleys to Besisahar, then follow Marshyangdi and Trishuli rivers back to Kathmandu (~160 km, 6–7 h).
