Description

Explore Kampala on a guided tour with a Boda Boda ride and a walking tour. Visit the Kabaka's Palace, the Kasubi Royal Tombs, and Namirembe Cathedral. Enjoy a traditional Lusaniya lunch.
Begin your day with a convenient hotel pickup by your professional guide and experienced Boda Boda riders. Ride to the Kabaka's Palace, the official residence of the King of Buganda. See the royal parliament (Bulange), the sacred traditional fire hut that has burned since before, and the dark history of Idi Amin's former torture chambers hidden inside the palace.

Next, ride to the Kasubi Royal Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and sacred burial ground for four Buganda Kings. Enter the massive thatched building, the largest of its kind in the world, and learn about royal rituals, drums, and Buganda spirituality.

Continue to Namirembe Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in Uganda, perched on Namirembe Hill. Admire the beautiful Anglican architecture, peaceful gardens, and panoramic views of Kampala.

Then, take a longer Boda ride to the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, an iconic site where Catholic and Anglican martyrs were burned alive for refusing to denounce Christianity. Visit both the Catholic Basilica and Anglican shrine, and learn about Uganda's deep faith history.

Return to Old Kampala to visit one of Africa's largest mosques, the Gaddafi National Mosque, gifted by Muammar Gaddafi. Explore the stunning interiors and climb the minaret for a breathtaking 360-degree view of all of Kampala.

Stop for an authentic Lusaniya Lunch, a traditional Baganda royal feast. All dishes are served together on a large round platter while seated. Enjoy Luwombo (chicken/beef steamed in banana leaves), Matooke, Pilau, Cassava, Sweet Potatoes, Beans, and local vegetables.

After lunch, park the Bodas and dive into the city on foot. Visit Owino Market (St. Balikuddembe), the biggest and most chaotic market in East Africa. Explore the Old Taxi Park, where you can experience organized chaos with taxis, shouting conductors, and boda-bodas everywhere.

Next, visit the Nakasero Food Market, the oldest food market in Kampala. See mountains of fresh fruits, matooke, spices, and chilies. Taste local street snacks like Rolex, Gonja, and fresh passion juice.

Finally, walk to the Independence Monument for photos and history. Finish at Bagala (African Craft) Market for handmade souvenirs, drums, baskets, and art to take home.
