Explore Chavín de Huántar, visit Laguna Querococha, admire Andean landscapes and discover ancient Chavín culture at the archaeological site and museum.
Begin your journey from Huaraz at approximately 9:00 AM and travel through the southern part of the Callejón de Huaylas before continuing into the scenic Callejón de Conchucos.
Your first stop is Laguna Querococha, a high-altitude lake surrounded by Andean mountains. Enjoy the scenery, take photographs and, if you wish, experience an optional horseback ride around the area.
Continue to a viewpoint where you can observe a geological fault and a representation of the map of Peru while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Then, arrive at the archaeological complex of Chavín de Huántar, an important ceremonial center of the ancient Chavín culture. Explore the archaeological remains with your guide and learn about the history, architecture and traditions of one of the most important cultures of ancient Peru.
After the visit, stop for lunch at a local restaurant where you can try traditional dishes from the Ancash region. Lunch is not included in the tour price.
In the afternoon, continue to the National Museum of Chavín. Explore its collection of archaeological pieces and replicas that help explain the development of the Chavín culture. You will also see more than 100 carved stone heads associated with this ancient civilization.
After completing the museum visit, begin the return journey to Huaraz. Arrival is expected at approximately 8:00 PM, although the schedule may vary depending on traffic, weather and road conditions.
The tour reaches a maximum altitude of approximately 4,516 meters above sea level. Weather conditions can change during the day, so bring warm clothing, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat or cap.
Bring cash for personal expenses, as digital payment methods such as Yape, Plin and cards may not be available along the route.
