Explore Pastoruri Glacier and Pumashimi Lagoon from Huaraz. Visit Pupapampa's mineral springs and enjoy scenic views of the high Andes before returning to Huaraz.
Begin your journey from Huaraz at approximately 9:00 AM and travel south through the scenic Callejón de Huaylas toward the high-altitude landscapes of Huascarán National Park and Pastoruri Glacier.
Your first stop will be in the town of Ticapampa, where you can arrange your lunch for the return journey. From here, continue toward the high-altitude landscapes surrounded by Andean mountains.
Next, visit the Pupapampa Carbonated Waters, known for their naturally carbonated water caused by the presence of minerals in the area. Take some time to observe this natural phenomenon and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery.
The tour then continues to Pumashimi Lagoon, a small high-altitude lagoon known for the different colors that can appear in its waters. These tones are influenced by the surrounding rocks, sunlight, and movement of the water, creating a distinctive Andean landscape.
Afterward, arrive at the starting point of the walk to Pastoruri Glacier. From the parking area, the walk takes approximately 30 minutes. The trail crosses a high-altitude landscape with views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
If you wish, you can take a horse for part of the route at an additional cost of approximately S/ 20. The horse will take you to a point about 10 minutes from the glacier, where you will continue on foot.
At Pastoruri Glacier, you will have time to observe the glacier and enjoy the surrounding scenery. For conservation and safety reasons, touching the glacier ice is prohibited due to the ongoing glacial retreat in the area.
After visiting Pastoruri, return to Ticapampa for lunch. Lunch is not included and costs approximately S/ 35 or more per person. After lunch, continue the journey back to Huaraz, arriving at approximately 5:30 PM.
The tour reaches approximately 5,240 meters (17,192 feet) above sea level, so the route takes place at high altitude. Weather conditions can change during the day.
The entrance fee to Huascarán National Park is included in the tour price.
