Description
Explore Moray, the Maras Salt Flats, and Chinchero Textile in the Sacred Valley. Enjoy an authentic cultural experience with a local guide and learn about Andean crops and textiles.
Discover the richness of the Sacred Valley of the Incas on this half-day tour of Moray, the Salt Mines of Maras, and Chinchero Textile. With a licensed local guide, you'll have a unique experience that combines culture, history, and living tradition.
In Moray, you'll explore the impressive circular terraces, where you'll learn about the ancient agricultural systems that allowed Andean crops to be grown for centuries. Then, you'll visit the Salt Flats of Maras, famous for their ancestral salt production, and you'll learn about the traditional techniques used by local families who keep this tradition alive to this day.
The tour continues at Chinchero Textil, considered the heart of Andean textile culture. Here you'll have the chance to see demonstrations of handmade fabrics, learn about natural dyes, and discover the symbolism and techniques that are passed down from generation to generation.
Our tour starts with a pick-up at your hotel between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. (a good time so you don't have to get up too early)
Then we'll head out in our vehicle in small groups for 40 minutes to our first stop, Chinchero, where you can see how people still maintain their culture through their clothing. You can take photos and experience experiential tourism with them, learning about the natural dyes they use. You'll also see how they still make fabrics by hand. You'll receive a hot mate as a welcome in clay glasses they made themselves. Then we'll head to our next point for 30 minutes in our vehicle to Moray (an Inca agricultural laboratory). Our guide will give you all the explanations, and you can go all the way around and through all the circular terraces. You'll have enough time for photos.
Then, in 15 minutes, we'll head to the Salt Mines, where you'll have the chance to taste chocolates made with salt and also see the salt extraction by the locals, who will give a demonstration. You can buy salt and take it home with you, as it's completely natural.
Finally, our tour wraps up with a return to Cusco, arriving at the Main Square between 2:00 and 2:30 pm.
