Description
From Skye: "Wild West Skye" private guided tour featuring walk to Talisker Bay, walk to Neist Point Lighthouse, visit Dun Beag Broch, a Sheepskin Traditional Tannery Tour, west coast viewpoints & more
On our Wild West Skye Tour you will experience the rugged, untamed beauty of the Isle of Skye’s West Coast, known for dramatic beaches, cliff top scenery and endless views out to sea. This unforgettable private day tour is designed for travellers who want to see dramatic landscapes, hidden gems, and authentic Highland experiences.
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive through ever-changing landscapes, where towering mountains give way to sweeping coastal views. Along the way, we pause at carefully chosen viewpoints to capture the best views of the west coast.
At Talisker Bay, a short walk leads you to one of the island’s most atmospheric beaches. Here, black sands, rolling waves, and striking sea stacks create a wild and cinematic setting. It’s a place that feels powerful with the sounds of the ocean and distant seabirds.
We then step back in time at Dun Beag Broch, an ancient Iron Age structure that offers a fascinating glimpse into Scotland’s distant past. Standing among these weathered stones, you’ll get a glimpse into prehistoric island life and imagine what it was like to live in such a remote and rugged place over 2000 years ago.
Continuing west, we reach the iconic Neist Point Lighthouse, Skye's most Westerly point, perched dramatically on the edge of sheer cliffs. This is Skye at its most awe-inspiring. Choose to walk down to the see the lighthouse or take in the panoramic views from above, the scenery here is unforgettable, especially on a clear day when the horizon stretches endlessly.
We will visit a traditional sheepskin tannery, where you’ll experience a different side of Skye’s heritage. Learn about the process of transforming fleece into beautifully finished sheepskins, meet local artisans, and gain insight into a craft that has been part of Highland life for generations.
A poignant stop along the way is Trumpan Church, an atmospheric ruin steeped in history. Known as the site of the “Battle of the Spoiling Dyke,” this quiet location tells a dramatic story of clan conflict dating back to the 16th century. Today, the roofless stone walls stand against the west coast winds, offering a reflective moment amid powerful scenery and a deeper connection to Skye’s turbulent past.
Throughout the day, we’ll also stop at local honesty boxes which are small, charming roadside stalls where you can pick up homemade goods, fresh produce, or handcrafted items. These simple stops offer a genuine connection to the island’s community spirit and traditions.
With a relaxed pace, this tour allows you to explore Skye in a way that feels personal and immersive. Wind swept cliffs, dramatic beaches, ancient ruins and local traditions, the “Wild West” of Skye promises a day of lasting memories.
Your guide, Rod, lives on Skye and is very knowledgeable about this beautiful island. He offers a range of themed Skye tours and also a fully bespoke option which can include guided hikes to more adventurous off the beaten track spots.
