Begin your walking tour at Edinburgh Castle. Meet your guide and learn about the castle’s story, from medieval sieges to Mary, Queen of Scots and James VI. Inside the castle, see key highlights such as the Honours of Scotland, the Great Hall, and St Margaret’s Chapel.
Next, walk down the Royal Mile with your guide, stopping at major landmarks and viewpoints. Stops include Victoria Street, St Giles’ Cathedral and the Mercat Cross (site of royal proclamations), plus story-filled closes and courtyards.
Continue past the World’s End (where the Netherbow Port once stood), into the Canongate. Pass Canongate Kirk and visit White Horse Close, a picturesque close linked to the royal stables.
Finish your tour outside the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Your guide will introduce Holyroodhouse and provide your Palace tickets and audio guide instructions. Then, visit the Palace interior independently at your own pace with the official audio guide.
Your Palace visit includes the royal apartments, the ruined Abbey, and the Palace gardens. The self-guided Palace visit takes around 1.5 hours.
