Descrizione
The only Kazbegi day trip on GetYourGuide with a Turkish-speaking guide. Travel the Georgian Military Highway to Gergeti Trinity Church and Ananuri Fortress, with Aragvi confluence and honey tasting.
This Kazbegi day trip is led by a Turkish-speaking guide - a rarity on GetYourGuide for the Tbilisi–Caucasus route. Comfortable in Turkish, Russian, English, Georgian, or Azerbaijani, your guide makes the high Caucasus accessible without language barriers.
Mount Kazbek rises 5,054 metres above the 14th-century church built at its foot. According to Georgian legend, Amirani - the local Prometheus - was chained to this mountain by the gods.
Your route follows the Georgian Military Highway, the road that has connected the South Caucasus to Russia for over two centuries. The first stop is Ananuri Fortress (16th-17th century), a stone castle overlooking the turquoise Zhinvali Reservoir. Walk through the defensive towers and step inside the Church of the Assumption to see original frescoes still visible on the walls.
Just past Ananuri, the road passes the confluence of the Black and White Aragvi rivers - two streams meeting in distinctly different colours before flowing as one.
Climb higher to Gudauri at 2,200 metres with a stop at the Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument - a Soviet-era panorama point built in 1983 to mark the 1783 Treaty of Georgievsk. The mosaic curves around a cliff edge with sweeping views of the Caucasus range. Stop along the way to taste local alpine honey, produced by mountain beekeepers from the wildflower meadows of the high Caucasus.
Reach Stepantsminda (also known as Kazbegi) by early afternoon. From here, you can take a local 4×4 jeep (20 GEL, paid on-site) for the final climb to Gergeti Trinity Church at 2,150 metres - or stay in town for free time. The church stands alone on a green hilltop with Mount Kazbek rising behind it - one of the most photographed scenes in the country.
