Meet your guide near Kintetsu Nara Station and begin at Kofuku-ji Temple, one of the city’s most important historic sites. Admire its traditional architecture and learn how Buddhism helped shape Nara when it served as Japan’s ancient capital.

Continue into Nara Park, where free-roaming deer wander beneath maple and ginkgo trees glowing in shades of red, orange, yellow, and gold. Considered sacred messengers in local tradition, the deer create one of Japan’s most memorable autumn scenes. Your guide will explain their cultural significance and help you find scenic locations for natural travel photos.

Walk through the grounds around Todai-ji Temple while hearing stories about its history, architecture, and the Great Buddha housed inside. Temple admission is not included unless otherwise stated, allowing the outdoor route to remain focused on Nara’s seasonal scenery.

Leave the busiest paths behind and continue toward Ukimido Pavilion. Standing above a quiet pond, the pavilion is especially beautiful when colorful leaves reflect across the water. This peaceful setting offers a striking contrast to the lively deer park.

The route then continues through the quieter Takabata neighborhood, where traditional houses, small temples, stone walls, and residential lanes reveal a more local side of Nara. These calm streets allow you to experience the city beyond its most famous landmarks.

Throughout the walk, your guide will share stories about ancient Nara, Buddhist culture, seasonal traditions, and the relationship between the city’s temples, nature, and sacred deer.
