Descrizione

Chase the Shakotan Blue on a day trip from Sapporo: Otaru Canal, Nikka Yoichi Distillery, and the cliff trail at Cape Kamui, plus Shimamui Coast and Ogon Cape. Round-trip bus and driver-guide.
Escape Sapporo for a day and see the Hokkaido that trains can't reach: historic Otaru, the birthplace of Japanese whisky, and the famous Shakotan Blue coastline.

The itinerary below is for reference only. Stop order and times may change based on conditions of the day. Travelers get a full refund if weather/road conditions cancel, reschedule, or remove a core stop.

8:40 AM | Sapporo Station North Exit | Start Our Journey
Meet at the group bus stop at Sapporo Station North Exit. This shared shuttle departs on time, so please arrive 10 minutes early. The bus cannot wait for latecomers.

9:30 AM | Otaru Canal | 20 minutes
Start with the postcard image of Otaru. Completed in 1923, the 1.1 km canal once served the city's port trade and is now lined with restored red brick warehouses and vintage gas lamps. Cameras ready: the warehouse reflections on the water are the classic Otaru shot.

10:00 AM | Kitaichi Glass Shopping Street | 2 hours free time
Now the town is yours. Browse the Kitaichi Glass shops for handblown glassware, visit the Otaru Music Box Museum, and have lunch at your own pace. The streets are packed with Hokkaido classics: fresh seafood rice bowls, sushi, ramen, tonkatsu, and Japanese curry. Most restaurants open at 11:00 AM, so plan accordingly.

12:00 PM | Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery | 45 minutes
Founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who studied whisky-making in Scotland and chose Yoichi for its similar cool climate, this is the birthplace of Japanese whisky. Rare coal-fired direct-heat distillation gives Nikka Yoichi its smoky, full-bodied character. Explore the preserved stone buildings, exhibits, and shop. Even non-drinkers will enjoy the architecture and history.

2:15 PM | Cape Kamui, Shakotan Peninsula | 1 hour
Cape Kamui juts into the Sea of Japan with water on three sides, and the color below is the famous Shakotan Blue, a turquoise so vivid it has its own name. Walk the ridgeline trail to the tip (about 20 minutes each way) for panoramic views of cliffs and open sea. The trail is exposed and often windy, so bring a windproof layer and stay behind the railings.

3:35 PM | Shimamui Coast | 20 minutes
One of Japan's Top 100 Coastlines, Shimamui saves its reveal for the end: pass through a 30-meter unlit tunnel and the view opens onto a hidden cove of cliffs and glowing blue water. Watch your step, as the ground can be slippery after rain.

4:20 PM | Ogon Cape | 40 minutes
Ogon means "golden," and the cape earns its name in the late afternoon light. Take in rock formations, rugged coastline, and on clear days a gradient of blues from turquoise to deep sapphire. The perfect final stop before heading home.

6:30 PM | Sapporo Station North Exit | End of Tour
Arrive back where the day began, with a camera roll that looks nothing like everyone else's Hokkaido trip.

The itinerary and schedule are subject to change due to weather, road conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances. Thank you for your understanding.
