Descrizione

Discover the hidden beauty of The Hague’s architecture and ornaments (1880–1950) with an enthusiastic local guide in 3 unique areas: the city centre, Statenkwartier or Zeeheldenkwartier.
Architecture, art and ornaments enrich our daily surroundings. Yet, sometimes one must pause to truly appreciate these exceptional details. Marvel at the architectural sculptures, stained glass, decorative tile panels, ornamental brickwork and historic shopfronts—features that The Hague possesses in abundance.

These walking tours focus primarily on the period 1880–1950. During this era, the city expanded significantly, and developments in architecture, art and ornamentation succeeded one another rapidly. Your guide will lead you on a journey of discovery past these extraordinary features in the everyday environment. The objective is not only to familiarise you with and foster an appreciation for The Hague, but also to inspire you to look at your own living environment through a different lens thereafter.

No prior knowledge of architecture or art is required for these tours; a sense of curiosity is all you need.

You may select from the following walking tours in The Hague:

• City Centre: Historic shopfronts, architectural sculptures, Art Nouveau, and Berlage (a seminal Dutch architect)

• Statenkwartier: An elegant early 20th-century neighbourhood situated behind the dunes, characterised by traditional brick architecture, turrets and stained glass. The heart of the district is the long shopping street, Frederik Hendriklaan. It is also home to the Kunstmuseum, a masterpiece by Berlage.

• Zeeheldenkwartier: A vibrant neighbourhood dating from the second half of the 19th century, featuring numerous Art Nouveau details. Here you will also find the Piet Heinstraat, known for its trendy eateries and design boutiques, as well as the atmospheric Anna Paulownaplein with its welcoming café terraces.

All tours start with a brief introduction at a local café or restaurant (refreshments are at your own expense).
