Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Challacancha - Soraypampa - Humantay Lake
Your adventure begins with an early departure from Cusco, passing through the stunning Sacred Valley. After a traditional breakfast in Mollepata, we head to Challacancha to start the trek. The trail follows an ancient Inca canal with views of grazing llamas and snow capped peaks. We reach our campsite in Soraypampa (3,850 m) and take a side hike to the magnificent Humantay Lake (4,200 m), whose turquoise waters reflect the surrounding glaciers. After exploring, we return to camp for a warm dinner and spend the night under the stars.
Day 2: Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass - Huayracmachay - Chaullay - Collpapampa
Wake up early and start your ascent towards Salkantay Pass (4,650 m), the highest point of the trek. Enjoy breathtaking views of towering glaciers and rugged peaks. After taking in the scenery, we descend into the cloud forest, stopping for a hot lunch at Huayracmachay. We continue through lush green landscapes, arriving at our campsite in Collpapampa (2,850 m), surrounded by waterfalls and tropical vegetation.
Day 3: Collpapampa - La Playa - Lucmabamba - Jungle Domes
We follow the Salkantay River through vibrant cloud forest, crossing rustic bridges and passing small local farms. Along the way, you’ll see banana, avocado, and passion fruit trees. In Lucmabamba, learn about traditional coffee production and enjoy a fresh cup with local farmers. Spend the night in unique jungle domes with transparent roofs, perfect for stargazing. Optional visit to nearby hot springs is available.
Day 4: Lucmabamba - Llactapata - Aobamba - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes
Hike along a preserved Inca trail through coffee plantations and dense vegetation to the archaeological site of Llactapata (2,700 m), where you’ll catch your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. After exploring the ruins, we descend into the Aobamba Valley and stop for lunch at Hidroelectrica. From there, walk along the train tracks through lush jungle to Aguas Calientes, where we stay in a comfortable hotel.
Day 5: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco
Start early with a bus ride to Machu Picchu to catch the sunrise over the ancient citadel. Enjoy a guided tour of its temples, terraces, and ceremonial sites, followed by free time to explore.
