From Cusco: Sacred Valley Llama Walk & Local Family Visit

Join a guided tour from Cusco or the Sacred Valley to Racchi Ayllu. Walk with llamas and alpacas, explore Machuqolcca Archaeological Park, and visit a local family to learn about Andean traditions.
Leave the busy tourist routes behind and spend half a day with local families in Racchi Ayllu, a small community in the Sacred Valley, about one hour from Cusco.

Begin with a visit to the community viewpoint, where local families will welcome you with their llamas and alpacas. Meet the animals, wear traditional Andean clothing, and take photos before starting the walk.

From Racchi Ayllu, walk with the llamas and alpacas along a quiet countryside path towards Machuqolcca Archaeological Park. The walk takes around one hour, with open views of the Sacred Valley, farming areas, and the surrounding mountains.

At Machuqolcca Archaeological Park, your guide will accompany you as you explore the site and learn about its history and importance in the area.

After the visit, return to the community and continue to the home of one of the local families. See how Andean wool is spun and how traditional textiles are made using techniques that have been passed down within the community. Make your own bracelet with the help of a local artisan and take it home with you.

Then, take part in a traditional spiritual cleansing and an offering to Pachamama, learning about the meaning of these practices from the local family.

Continue with the preparation of a traditional Pachamanca. Rather than simply being served lunch, take part in preparing the food alongside the community members and learn how this traditional underground cooking method is prepared. After the cooking is finished, sit down with the local families and enjoy the Pachamanca you helped prepare.
