Descrizione
This tour has a variety of objectives: history in Uthina, the panoramic city of Sidi Bou Said, and exploring the production of renowned Tunisian wines.
Departure & First Discovery: Uthina, the little-known archaeological treasure
Our day starts with an early morning pick-up at your hotel in Sousse or Hammamet. We'll head inland for a first off-the-beaten-track experience: the archaeological site of Oudna (Uthina). Unknown to the general public and yet exceptionally rich, this park has a big surprise in store for you. You'll explore the imposing remains of a major Roman city, including its magnificent, well-preserved amphitheater, baths, and mosaics. Here, history is palpable and unfolds in relative tranquility, away from the crowds. It's a fascinating dive into antiquity, an essential chapter of Tunisia that many visitors haven't yet had the privilege of discovering.
Second Stop: The Mediterranean in Blue and White at Sidi Bou Saïd
Then we'll head north to the capital, Tunis. Our goal: the mythical village of Sidi Bou Said, clinging to its cliff overlooking the sea. The contrast is striking: leave the ancient ocher stones of Oudna to arrive in a burst of blue and white. This gem, made famous by its artists, is an embodiment of the Arab-Andalusian architectural style. Its picturesque main street, vaults, studded doors, and vibrant bougainvilleas create a living picture. You'll have some free time for a personal stroll: wander through the alleys, enjoy a famous pine nut tea facing the infinite sea horizon, or discover the artisans' workshops. The panoramic view of the Gulf of Tunis from the Nattes cafeteria is simply a must-see. Lunch at a local restaurant will let you taste the specialties in this unique setting.
Third Theme: The Art of Tunisian Wine
The adventure continues after lunch. We'll leave the coast to head to the wine region of the Tunis hills, where the scenery changes again, giving way to carefully ordered vineyards. Our destination: a visit to a renowned Tunisian wine factory. Here, you'll move from visual scenery to sensory delights. During a guided tour of the cellars, you'll discover the stages of wine production, from pressing to aging, and learn how local and international grape varieties flourish under the Tunisian sun. The highlight of this stage is, of course, the tasting: you'll have the opportunity to taste a selection of the best red, rosé, and white wines of the country, accompanied by explanations from an oenologist. It's a surprising and refined encounter with a little-known side of Tunisian agriculture and know-how.
