Descrizione

Mount Elgon is one of East Africa’s oldest and most scenic volcanic mountains. Known for its lush montane forests, dramatic caves, waterfalls, and sweeping alpine views.
Day 1: Kampala – Mbale – Mount Elgon Foothills
After an early breakfast, depart Kampala for a scenic drive eastward through Jinja and the lush Busoga countryside, passing sugarcane plantations, rivers, and rolling green hills. Continue onward to Mbale Town, beautifully set at the foothills of Mount Elgon, where you will stop for lunch and a short rest.
In the afternoon, proceed to the Mount Elgon National Park area and check in at your lodge. Upon arrival, you will meet your guide for a detailed briefing about the next day’s hike, including safety guidelines, trail conditions, altitude considerations, and what to expect in terms of wildlife, birdlife, and vegetation.
Spend the rest of the evening relaxing in the cool mountain air, enjoying the peaceful forest surroundings and panoramic views over eastern Uganda. Dinner and overnight at Sipi Valley Resort lodge.

Day 2: Guided Nature Walk & Hike – Return to Kampala
After an early breakfast, drive to the park gate or designated trailhead for registration and a final safety briefing by the ranger. Your hike begins from the Elgon Trekkers Base Camp at approximately 2,070 meters above sea level.
The trail gently winds through fertile farmlands and coffee plantations, offering insight into traditional farming practices as you pass local communities at work. You will then reach the Gasawa Ladders above Bugiboni Village, an exciting section featuring wooden steps and steeper gradients that add a touch of adventure to the hike.
Beyond this point, cultivated land gradually gives way to natural forest. The air becomes cooler, birdsong grows louder, and the scenery more dramatic. Walking along well-established forest trails, you may spot monkeys, colorful butterflies, and a variety of bird species such as turacos, hornbills, and sunbirds.
Your guide will share fascinating information about Mount Elgon’s ancient volcanic origins, medicinal plants used by local communities, and the importance of conserving this fragile mountain ecosystem.
After time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the views, you will descend back to the base camp and begin your return journey to Kampala, arriving in the evening with lasting memories of Mount Elgon’s landscapes, people, and wildlife.
