Mangroves & Beaches: Hiking Tour of Balandra, La Paz

Balandra is a shallow ocean inlet between two mountain ridges featuring a series of stunning secluded beaches and bays surrounded by mangroves. This protected natural area is considered La Paz’ landmark and one of Mexico’s most beautiful beaches. Our staff will pick you up at your hotel in La Paz rather early in the morning and take you to the starting point of our hike at Balandra. Hike around one of the most spectacular beaches in La Paz and enjoy magnificent views, especially the panorama from above the hills that surround Balandra is just stunning! Your guide will also take you on a little-known path right along the edge between mountain, desert and mangroves to an otherwise inaccessible beach; on this nature interpretation hike you are likely to observe some of the many bird species native to the area. You'll will also visit Tecolote beach, which is beautiful in a different way. Tecolote beach is an endless, wide strand ideal for swimming and relaxing as well as the perfect spot to enjoy a platter of fish tacos, a typical local dish, in a beach restaurant.
The hike takes both ways about 90 minutes to 2 hours, during which you may admire the contrast of desert and sea and the diversity of flora found in these contrasting ecosystems, including the mangroves. Your certified naturalist tour guide makes this excursion even more enjoyable providing interesting insights of the desert’s ecosystem. This is a unique walk that you can’t miss! Just about when the sun gets too hot to be out in the wild, we’ll take you back to your hotel.
