A highlight of the afternoon is a guided walk from Wukang Mansion along Wukang Road, Wuyuan Road and Yanqing Road in Shanghai's former French Concession. In autumn, cooler air and leaves turning gold make a stroll beneath the plane trees especially inviting. Slow down, look up at the facades and enjoy a different side of Shanghai.

Start with the distinctive, ship-shaped Wukang Mansion, designed by Laszlo Hudec and completed in 1924. Its French Renaissance style and ground-floor arcades make it one of the area's most recognizable landmarks. Along Wukang Road, discover a mix of British country-villa influences, Mediterranean-style residences and Art Deco details. Red-tiled roofs, balconies and garden walls reveal the neighborhood's varied architectural character as your guide shares its stories.

Continue along Wuyuan Road and Yanqing Road for a closer look at Shanghai's residential heritage. Traditional lane neighborhoods, known locally as longtang, sit alongside garden houses and small street-front businesses. Wuyuan Road brings together historic homes and intimate lanes, while Yanqing Road blends shikumen, or stone-gated houses, with cafes and contemporary shops. Look along lane entrances and notice how these historic streets remain part of everyday neighborhood life. Enjoy the walk from public streets while respecting residents' privacy.

From 4:30 to 5:00 PM, explore the City God Temple area and soak up the atmosphere of Shanghai's old town.

Travel to the Bund and explore its historic waterfront buildings from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Admire the grand facades along the river and the contrast with the modern skyline across the Huangpu. The tour ends at the Bund at 7:30 PM.
