Day 1: Addis Ababa – Awash National Park

Begin your journey with a pickup from your hotel or the airport in Addis Ababa. Drive via Adama/Nazret along Ethiopia’s modern expressway.

Stop at Lake Beseka, a hotspot for water birds. Expect sightings of herons, ducks, cranes, and kingfishers. Crocodiles are also sometimes spotted basking near the shore.

Arrive at Awash National Park and enter the Awash River Gorge. Here, the Awash Waterfalls thunder dramatically, attracting Nile Crocodiles that bask on rocky ledges and raptors circling overhead.
Dive on an afternoon game drive. As you cross savannah and acacia woodlands, look for mammals like Beisa Oryx, Klipspringer, Salt’s Dikdik, Warthog, Anubis Baboon, Hamadryas Baboon, and Grivet Monkey. At dusk, Spotted Hyenas become active. Keep an eye out for birds like Hornbills, Abyssinian Rollers, Eagles, Ostriches, Bustards, and Bee-eaters.

Check in at Doho Lodge, located on the edge of a wetland teeming with birdlife. Soak in the Doho hot springs, naturally heated pools where you can relax under the stars before dinner.

Day 2: Awash National Park & Alidegy Wildlife Reserve

Start the day with an optional early soak in the hot springs, surrounded by lush greenery and birdsong.

Take a morning game drive in Alidegy Reserve, featuring wide-open plains that attract large herbivores. Expect to see mammals like Soemmerring’s Gazelle, Greater & Lesser Kudu, Defarsa Waterbuck, Beisa Oryx, and Plains Zebra. Predators such as Golden Jackal, Black-backed Jackal, Serval, Caracal, Leopard, and Lion are also possible. Look out for birds like Secretary Bird, Ostrich, Arabian Bustard, Hornbills, and Vultures.

Enjoy a picnic in the reserve or return to the lodge for a hot meal.

Return to Awash National Park for more wildlife viewing in different habitats. Look for mammals like Colobus Monkey, Warthog, Hartebeest, and Klipspringer. Keep an eye out for birds like bee-eaters, rollers, kingfishers, and raptors soaring above the savannah.

Unwind again in the steaming natural hot springs, letting the warmth ease away the day’s safari dust.

Day 3: Awash – Addis Ababa

Rise early for a sunrise game drive inside Awash National Park. The early morning hours are prime time for wildlife activity. Look for herds of Soemmerring’s Gazelle, Oryx, Zebra, Baboons, and if lucky, predators on the hunt. Keep an eye out for raptors catching thermals, cranes calling, and ostriches striding across the plains.

After breakfast at the lodge, check out and begin your return journey to Addis Ababa via Adama/Nazret. Drop-off will be at your hotel or directly at the airport, marking the end of this unforgettable wildlife safari.
