Moraine Lake is closed to private vehicles, and this is the easy way in. Reserve a seat, ride straight to the lake, and return on any Horizon bus within your return window.
Private vehicles can't drive to Moraine Lake, so a shuttle is the only way in. Horizon Tours runs a direct round trip from the Lake Louise Park and Ride, with a reserved seat on your chosen departure and no booking fees.
Begin your day by arriving at the Lake Louise Park and Ride (Lake Louise Ski Resort, 1 Whitehorn Road) at least 15 minutes before your departure. Look for the Orange Horizon shuttle and board your reserved departure.
The ride to Moraine Lake takes about 30 minutes. Explore at your own pace, then ride back to the Park and Ride on any Horizon bus within your ticket's return window. Your return window is shown on your ticket and confirmation email. If you're still waiting after the last scheduled return, a final sweep bus will bring you back to your car.
Most visitors spend about 2 to 3 hours at Moraine Lake. The short Rockpile Trail climbs to the classic viewpoint over the Valley of the Ten Peaks, the lakeshore trail follows the water's edge, and canoe rentals are available at the lake.
In late September, the Larch Valley trail turns gold and is one of the busiest hikes in the park. If you're planning a longer hike like Larch Valley or Consolation Lakes, choose an early departure so you have time within your return window.
Moraine Lake sits at about 1,885 m and is often much colder than the valley, so bring warm layers and a rain jacket. A valid Parks Canada national park pass is required and isn't included in your ticket.
