Opis
Fast-paced Bergen walking tour with a trained historian, perfect for cruise guests. Explore Bryggen, uncover Hanseatic rivalry, and end at Bergenhus Fortress.
We begin at St. Mary’s Church (Mariakirken), one of the oldest surviving buildings in Bergen. From here, your historian introduces the history of the Hanseatic League in Bergen, and how German merchants once controlled trade, shipping, and daily life along the waterfront.
Walking through Bryggen, a UNESCO-listed area and one of the most visited attractions in Norway, you will learn how the rivalry between local Bergen citizens and the Hanseatic merchants shaped the city’s development, economy, and social structure.
The tour continues behind the iconic wooden buildings of Bryggen, where we step away from the main tourist paths to explore lesser-known parts of the historic harbor area. Here, the stories of conflict, trade, and everyday life in medieval Bergen become more vivid and human.
We finish at Bergenhus Fortress, one of Norway’s oldest and most important medieval fortifications. From this historic site, your guide explains how power over Bergen’s harbor was enforced and how the balance between locals and Hanseatic merchants eventually changed.
