Learn about the ancient work of ashlar stone quarrymen and enter a ravine formed by the passage of water with this excursion to the Culebrillas canyon from Arequipa.
The tour will begin with pickup from your hotel in Arequipa at the selected time. From there we will follow the road to Uchumayo until we reach the carved stone quarry, where we will take a tour to learn about the work of the stonemasons, a trade that has existed since ancient times. The rocks in this area have a special characteristic: they can only be manipulated by hand or they will break. The task of the masons was to process the stone until producing ash, which would later be used in the architectural works of this Peruvian region. Did you know that this material originates from the lava of the volcanoes that surround Arequipa?
Then we will walk for half an hour to reach our next destination: the Culebrillas Canyon, a canyon created by nature and water itself. Here we will follow a walking path between 15 to 20 meter high stone walls and you will be able to take excellent photographs. In addition, we will be able to see ancient petroglyphs, that is, cave symbols carved into rocks, whose meaning remains a mystery. After the four-hour tour, we will return to the center of Arequipa. The tour will end near the Plaza de Armas.
