From Cluj-Napoca: 4-Day Tour Maramures, Bucovina, Transylva

Day 1:
Depart from Cluj-Napoca and head to the Wooden Church in Budesti, which was built in 1643 and is included in the UNESCO heritage. Next, stop in Breb, a village considered to be the most beautiful in Romania. In this village, the traditions of Maramures are preserved really well. After walking for approximately 2 hours, continue to Barsana Monastery and the Wooden Church of Barsana, also included in the UNESCO Heritage.

After lunch, go to the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta, well known for its brightly colored grave crosses and paintings that portray scenes from the lives and activities of the interred people. Here, you will have one hour to visit the cemetery and buy souvenirs. Accommodation will be at a traditional guesthouse in Poienile Izei. In this area, you can take some time and admire the famous wooden gates. Dinner will be served at the guesthouse.

Day 2:
After breakfast, depart to Bucovina. On the road, admire the Rodnei Mountains and make short stops for taking pictures. Around lunchtime, arrive at Voronet Monastery, built in 1488 by order of the voievode Stefan the Great. This Monastery is included in the UNESCO Heritage since 1993. Then, make a short stop at Humorului Monastery. It was constructed in 1530 by Voievod Petru Rareş and his chancellor Teodor Bubuiog.

The journey continues to Cetatea Neamtului, built at the end of the XIVth century by Petru the Ist and fortified by Stefan the Great years after that. After a tour of about one hour, visit the Ion Creanga Museum of Humulesti. Here you have the opportunity to discover how Romanian peasants have lived almost two centuries ago. Accommodation and dinner will be at a guesthouse in the area.

Day 3:
After breakfast, start crossing the Carpathians on your way to Bran. Here, stop to admire the landscape and take breathtaking pictures at Bicaz Lake, Vanatori National Park. Around lunchtime, arrive at Bran Castle, which is strongly linked to the Legend of Dracula. After a one-hour tour, go to Peles Castle, built on the initiative of the first king of Romania, Carol the Ist. In the afternoon, accommodation in Brasov and free time for exploring the city.

Day 4:
After breakfast, depart to Sighisoara and stop along the way at Viscri village, After a one-hour visit, go back on your way to Sighisoara. This is the best-kept urban fortress in Transylvania, as well as the largest medieval fortress in Europe that has been inhabited ceaselessly. Also, it is included in the UNESCO Heritage.

After lunch, head towards Cluj-Napoca, with a stop along the way at a traditional winery, located in Tarnavelor area. By night, arrive in Cluj-Napoca.
