Opis

Walk with me through Kampala on a trail past monuments that tell the rich history of Christian missionaries, colonialism, and independence while showing you the city's culture and day-to-day life.
Come and walk with me through Kampala, and discover the stories that shaped Uganda's capital.
This walking experience follows a trail through some of Kampala's important historical landmarks and neighbourhoods, connecting the city's story from the arrival of Christian missionaries and the growth of the Buganda Kingdom, through colonial rule and the struggle for independence, to the busy Kampala you see today.

As we walk through the city, I will share the stories behind the monuments, buildings, religious sites, markets and streets around us. But this is not only a history tour.

You will also see Kampala as it is lived today; traders opening their shops, boda bodas moving through the streets, street vendors serving local food, people going about their daily work, markets full of activity and different communities sharing the same city.
We begin in the heart of Kampala with a short introduction to the city and how it developed from the historic hills of Buganda into Uganda's modern capital.
Don't miss the Independence Monument, one of Kampala's most recognised landmarks.
You will learn what independence meant for Uganda and how the country began shaping its own political and national identity.
You will see Kampala's daily rhythm, people going to work, small businesses, shops, street vendors, boda bodas and pedestrians moving through the city.
As we continue our trail, we explore the arrival of Christian missionaries and their relationship with the Buganda Kingdom.
We continue towards Old Kampala, one of the city's historic areas where we explore the development of Kampala around its original hills and the importance of Islam and the Muslim community in Uganda's history.

The area also gives us a different view of Kampala's everyday life, with busy streets, small businesses and local communities.
We will go through Nakasero Market where you will see how people earn a living, how goods move through the city, how local traders interact with customers and how food, transport and small businesses keep Kampala moving every day.

Feel free to ask questions, take photographs and interact respectfully with your surroundings.

This part of the experience is deliberately informal. There is room to ask questions and talk about whatever catches your attention along the way.

Why Walk Kampala With Me?

Kampala is a city that is best understood through its streets.

A vehicle can take you from one monument to another, but walking allows you to notice the smaller details and the conversations, smells, sounds, businesses, architecture, people and unexpected moments that make the city what it is.

I will not simply point at buildings and give you dates.

I will tell you the stories behind them and connect those stories to the Kampala you see today.

By the end of the walk, you should have a better understanding of how Uganda's history, religion, colonial experience, independence and culture have helped shape modern Kampala.
