Arequipa: Sillar Route & Culebrillas Canyon Tour with Photos

Discover the Sillar Route on a guided tour from Arequipa. Visit the Yanahuara Viewpoint, the Añashuayco Quarries, and the Culebrillas Ravine, and learn about local craftsmanship.
Begin your experience with pickup from your hotel located around Arequipa’s Main Square. If your hotel is outside the designated pickup area, the meeting point will be at Arequipa’s Main Square.

Start your tour with a visit to the Yanahuara Viewpoint, which offers a privileged panoramic view of Arequipa. Located at more than 2,300 meters above sea level, the viewpoint provides views of the city and its iconic volcanoes, including Misti, Pichu Pichu, and Chachani.

Continue to the Añashuayco Quarries, located at the foothills of Chachani Volcano, northwest of Arequipa. Known as the Sillar Quarries, this area is located within a ravine that extends for more than 18 kilometers.

As part of the quarry visit, you can choose to enter one of two artisan workshops located within the area. Each workshop offers an opportunity to learn more about the traditional craftsmanship and carving of Arequipa’s characteristic white sillar stone.

Next, visit the Culebrillas Ravine, an archaeological site featuring 13 groups of petroglyphs carved into the walls of the ravine.

Explore the site and learn about the different designs preserved in the rock. The petroglyphs feature various carved designs, some of them quite complex, representing elements from the pre-Hispanic period, as well as llamas, animals, and more recent figures.

After visiting the main attractions, return to Arequipa, concluding your 4-hour Sillar Route experience, combining panoramic views, volcanic landscapes, local craftsmanship, and archaeological heritage.
