An unprecedented tour to discover one of the masterpieces of Italian Renaissance art
Discover the Basilica of St. Andrew in Mantua through unprecedented tour routes.
Commissioned by Marquis Ludovico Gonzaga and built starting in 1472, designed by humanist Leon Battista Alberti, the city's co-cathedral, which houses the tomb of court painter Andrea Mantegna, represents one of the highest expressions of Italian Renaissance architecture.
The basilica houses in its crypt, inside the Sacred Vases, the most venerable relic in Christianity: the Precious Blood of Jesus, brought to Mantua, according to tradition, by the Roman soldier Longinus and rediscovered thanks to the miraculous revelations of St. Andrew. A relic that was a sign of redemption and faith and an element that contributed to the city's development and notoriety.
Through walkways hitherto never open to the public, you will be able to reach the immense 18th-century dome, created by Filippo Juvarra to complete the structure and enjoy exclusive and panoramic viewpoints over the building and the city.
