Discover the history and culture of Georgia on a guided tour from Tbilisi. Visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Chronicles of Georgia, Jvari Monastery, and Mtskheta.
Begin your tour in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and enjoy a perfect combination of history, culture, religion, and panoramic views. Start in Old Tbilisi, the historical heart of the city founded in the 5th century. Walk through its narrow cobblestone streets and see traditional houses with colorful wooden balconies, ancient churches, and famous sulfur bathhouses.
Continue to Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba), the main cathedral of Georgia and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Built between 1995 and 2004, the cathedral symbolizes the spiritual revival of the country. The complex includes smaller churches, a bell tower, and a seminary, while its interior is decorated with impressive frescoes and icons. From the cathedral grounds, enjoy beautiful views over the city.
Next, visit the impressive Chronicles of Georgia, a monumental complex created by renowned Georgian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli. The massive stone pillars are carved with scenes depicting Georgian kings, important historical events, and Christian themes. The lower parts illustrate biblical stories, while the upper sections represent Georgia’s royal history. The location also offers stunning panoramic views of the Tbilisi Sea and surrounding areas.
After leaving Tbilisi, head to Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century masterpiece of early Georgian Christian architecture. Located on a hilltop, the monastery overlooks the dramatic confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. According to tradition, Saint Nino raised a wooden cross on this site during the spread of Christianity in Georgia. Jvari Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country’s most iconic landmarks.
Continue to Mtskheta, the ancient capital and spiritual center of Georgia. Explore the historic town and see Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, built in the 11th century. According to legend, the cathedral stands on the burial site of Christ’s robe, making it one of the most sacred places in Georgia. Mtskheta is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoy free time to walk through the town and shop for souvenirs.
Return to Tbilisi and conclude your tour at Mtatsminda, the city’s highest viewpoint. The TV Tower, one of Tbilisi’s main symbols, stands here, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the entire city. This is an ideal spot for photos and a relaxing end to the day, especially during sunset.
