Discover the unique landscapes and spiritual heritage of eastern Georgia on a full-day trip from Tbilisi. Visit the David Gareja Monastery and explore the charming town of Sighnaghi.
The drive from Tbilisi takes you through the semi-desert landscape of Kakheti, with a stop at Mlashe Lake for some photos and fresh air before heading further east.
David Gareja is the first main stop — a monastery complex carved into the cliffs right on the border with Azerbaijan. It's a fascinating place with a long history, and the views of the Rainbow Mountains from up there, with their unusual layers of colored rock, are worth the trip alone.
After the adventure, head to the charming hilltop town of Sighnaghi, known as the “City of Love.” Enjoy free time for lunch or an optional traditional Georgian set menu is available, where you will be able to taste the true flavors of Kakheti with one of the most popular Georgian dishes.
In the afternoon, join a guided walking tour through Sighnaghi's cobbled streets, past colorful wooden balconies and breathtaking views over the Alazani Valley and the Greater Caucasus mountains in the distance. You'll also get to walk along the 18th-century defensive wall that still wraps around much of the city — one of the best-preserved examples of its kind in Georgia.
Afterwards, return to Tbilisi.
