On just four special dates in January 2027—January 11, 17, 24, and 31—discover the village during its limited winter light-up, when snow-covered Gassho-style houses glow beautifully against the surrounding mountains.
Departing from Nagoya, this small-group tour combines Shirakawa-go with a visit to historic Hida Takayama. Explore the charming old streets of Takayama, discover traditional Japanese architecture and craftsmanship, and enjoy local specialties such as Takayama ramen or Hida cuisine at your own pace.
After sunset, arrive in Shirakawa-go and enjoy its enchanting winter atmosphere. Traditional Gassho-style houses, deep snow, mountain scenery, and warm illumination create a unique Japanese winter landscape and wonderful photo opportunities.
Travel in a comfortable small vehicle with a local professional guide and enjoy a relaxed experience without shopping stops. Guests who prefer to finish their journey in Takayama can request drop-off there in advance when booking. Without advance notice, the vehicle will return directly to Nagoya.
Winter conditions in Shirakawa-go can include heavy snow, ice, slippery roads, and low temperatures. Warm waterproof clothing and non-slip winter shoes are strongly recommended. Please also respect local residents, avoid private areas, and follow local staff instructions during the light-up.
The itinerary and visiting times may change depending on weather, traffic, road conditions, and local event arrangements. The actual light-up areas may also vary.
