Discover the spiritual roots of Japan on a day tour from Osaka to Nara and Mount Ikoma. Visit Horyuji Temple, explore Hozanji Temple, and enjoy panoramic views from Mount Ikoma's summit.
The tour starts at Osaka Station. See more details about the starting location at the bottom of the page! You will have a chance to go to the bathroom, etc before leaving.

Once we all meet up and are ready to go we will hop on a train to Horyuji Temple. The ride starts in the city but after a transfer and then passing through the mountains, you will enter Nara. This area is a bit more rural and rice fields will start to become amore common sight before arriving at our final destination.

As one of Japan's most profoundly significant cultural sites, Horyuji Temple houses the world's oldest surviving wooden structures and serves as the cradle of Japanese Buddhism. Founded in 607 by Prince Shotoku, this UNESCO World Heritage site protects a priceless treasury of early Buddhist art and architecture spanning over 1,400 years of history. Your guide will lead you around the grounds, sharing the interesting stories about Japan's ancient past.

Finished with the temple it will be lunch time! There are a few restaurants around the temple and station that your guide can recommend. Soba is one of the main dishes you can find at many of the places nearby.

After lunch you will start your journey to Ikoma which requires a train ride through a very local area before arriving at Ikoma. At Ikoma you will transfer to the cable car which is a unique experience which feels like a very steep train ride!

Hozanji Temple is a powerful spiritual site uniquely revered for its striking fusion of Buddhist tradition, indigenous Shinto worship, and mountain asceticism. Established in its modern form by the monk Tanku in 1678, the temple is famous for its sacred cavern dedicated to the deity Shoten, attracting millions of visitors who come to pray for commercial success, good fortune, and personal fulfillment.

The last stop of the tour is the top of Mt. Ikoma with an amazing view of the Osaka plain. This is also the location of an amusement park so during the free time that you have here feel free to ride some rides, take in the view and have some sweets! Soak in the excitement of the best view of Osaka with the screams of park goers enjoying a ride or two.

After a full day of exploring temples and getting great views, it is time to head back. We will board the train together and make our way back toward Osaka, arriving at Osaka Station. Feel free to use the journey to chat with your guide about the day’s adventures, or simply close your eyes and relax on the smooth ride home!

Once you return back to the station the tour is finished. A day full of history, beauty and travel concludes back in Osaka where you can eat and drink and enjoy the best of what Osaka has to offer!
