Take part in the sacred melukat purification ritual at Tirta Empul with a local guide, and customize your day with a coffee plantation or Batuan Temple visit. Sarong and offering included.
Tirta Empul is one of the few temples in Bali where visitors are welcome to take part in melukat, the Balinese Hindu purification ritual. Instead of walking through and taking photos, you will enter the holy spring pools yourself and move through the fountains in sequence, guided step by step by a local Balinese guide.

Your day begins with pickup in an air-conditioned car. We schedule early departures on purpose: arriving soon after the temple opens means calmer water, fewer people in the pools, and far better photos than a midday visit.

At the temple, your guide helps you change into a traditional sarong and sash and prepares your canang sari, the small flower offering. Before you enter the water, your guide explains the meaning of the ritual, temple etiquette, and what each fountain represents, because every spout has its own purpose. You then step into the spring and move from fountain to fountain, setting your own intention under each one. Your guide stays at the poolside throughout to tell you which spouts to skip and when to move on, and will take photos and videos for you along the way. Guests who prefer not to enter the water are welcome to watch instead. Visitors of all faiths are welcome.

After the ritual you will have time to change, then explore the rest of the complex with your guide, including the main courtyards, the koi pond, and the original spring that feeds the pools.

CHOOSE YOUR OPTION

Option 1 - Tirta Empul Only (approx. 3 hours)
The purification ritual and a full guided visit to the temple complex, with return transfer. Best if you are short on time or want to focus entirely on the ritual itself.

Option 2 - Tirta Empul + Coffee Plantation (approx. 4-5 hours)
After the temple, visit a traditional Balinese coffee plantation set in the hills. Walk through the garden to see cocoa, vanilla, ginger and coffee growing, learn how luwak coffee is produced, and enjoy a complimentary tasting of Balinese coffees and herbal teas overlooking the valley.

Option 3 - Tirta Empul + Batuan Temple (approx. 4-5 hours)
Continue to Pura Batuan, a village temple founded over 1,000 years ago and known for its dense stone carving and its tiered, carved wooden pavilion. Far quieter than Bali's headline temples, it is a good place to see how a working community temple is still used day to day, and your guide will explain the carvings and the stories behind them.

GOOD TO KNOW

You will get wet during the ritual, so bring a change of clothes and a small towel. Changing rooms are available at the temple. Your sarong, sash and offering are provided, and the temple entrance ticket is included in all options.

Whichever option you choose, the ritual itself is never rushed. You set the pace.
