We take you behind the storybook charm of this magical pueblo. Learn its outsized history, visit museums, galleries, and meet some of the local artisans who have made Tlaquepaque famous.
Conducted by a native English speaker, our Walking Tour begins at the entrance to Tlaquepaque's famous Walking Street and its Open Air Gallery. Marvel at the display of bronze sculptures that tell the story of Mexican Independence, the town's artisanal identity, and celebrations and festivals of Jalisco state. The gigantic Señor Monitos statue towers above - hear about its unique place in the collection that is the pride of the town. As we make our way up Independence Street, see the former mansions that have been lovingly preserved, and imagine how life was lived in former times.
We stop and explore the Regional Ceramics Museum, interior gardens and patios hidden from view to the casual pedestrian, and galleries belonging to notable artisans including Sergio Bustamante and Augustin Parra.
We depart from the beaten path to visit El Refugio, a former hospital with a mysterious past, and now the town's Cultural Exhibition Center and the symbol of Tlaquepaque's artisanal identity. In the same complex you'll get a tour of the Panteleon Panduro Museum. Every ceramic piece on display is a winner of a national contest that been held annually in Tlaquepaque since the 1950s.
As we make our way to the Main Plaza, we visit the Parish of Saint Peter and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Solitude, and you'll learn why Tlaquepaque has two magnificent churches so close together.
At restful Hidalgo Garden you'll mingle with multi-generational families who come from all over Mexico to experience the charm of the town.
We stop at the Town Hall before moving onto the corridor above which hangs another art gallery called La Plaza de la Infancia. A loving tribute to childhood, you'll delight in the sculptures of children at play.
Our last stop is the famous El Parian. The site of the town's former market, this structure with a fascinating history all its own, claims to be the largest cantina in Latin America. With a little imagination and memories of movies depicting the Old West, you'll be immersed in a scene evoking what used to be the real thing.
If you're lucky we might see a street performance of traditional music and folkloric dancing, common sights in the town, especially on weekends.
Tlaquepaque is one of the nation's cherished "magic pueblos," recognized for its role in the country's independence, its charm, and a relaxed ambience. With a long history of fame as the home of artisans who have produced some of the finest craftsmanship Mexico has to offer, it presents an opportunity to browse a fabulous display of outstanding craftsmanship if you stay after the tour is over. There are a seemingly endless selection of shops selling pottery, leather goods, clothing, home decor, art, jewelry and more.
Our tour has been vetted for quality by the local Office of Tourism and the town's Historic Committee. A highly visible and friendly police force is ever present to keep safe the thousands of visitors who come from inside and outside the country.

Perfect for a day trip
25 minutes from Guadalajara’s historic center and the airport
We will meet at the sculpture that spells out "TLAQUEPAQUE" in big colorful block letters. It´s a well known landmark found at the lower end of the famous Independence (Walking) Street, which is pedestrian only. The street is not directly accessible by car but the sculpture is only a one minute walk from the Visitors Center, and is located directly behind it in a small circular plaza. So try to have your driver leave you in front of the Visitors Center, which is the town´s pickup and drop off point used by the tourist buses. If by some chance you are dropped off at the upper end of Independence Street, simply walk downhill and you will see the letters on your right before you get to the busy main road.
