Explore the Red Sand Dunes in Riyadh, also known as Red Sand Riyadh or Thumamah Desert, a popular outdoor destination located about 45–60 minutes north-east of Riyadh. These dunes are famous for their vibrant red-orange sand, caused by high iron oxide content, and provide a stunning contrast to the surrounding desert landscape.

Try sandboarding, dune bashing, quad biking (ATVs), camel rides, and hiking. Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon, especially during the cooler months from October to March.

Reach the dunes easily by car, but a 4WD is recommended for off-road driving. Find rental shops for ATVs, food stalls, and some shaded seating areas.
