Meet the master goldsmith, who has nearly 36 years of experience in jewelry making. Over the years, he has developed deep knowledge of traditional Sri Lankan jewelry-making techniques and gemstones. Observe his work closely, ask questions, and learn about the skills and traditions that have been passed down through generations.
Work comfortably in our fully equipped, air-conditioned workshop, where traditional jewelry-making tools are combined with modern equipment. The cool and comfortable environment allows you to enjoy the hands-on experience and focus on learning the craft, even on warm days in Galle.
Begin with a warm welcome from the family, followed by an introduction to the workshop and the jewelry-making process. See the different stages involved in transforming raw materials into a finished piece of jewelry. Depending on the type of piece you choose to make and the stage of the process, get involved with traditional techniques such as melting silver, hammering and shaping the metal, filing and refining, soldering, polishing, and other basic hands-on jewelry-making techniques.
Explore a wide selection of gemstone types available at the workshop. During your visit, explore different stones, learn about their characteristics and uses, and choose a gemstone for your jewelry-making experience where appropriate. The goldsmith will also share knowledge about gemstones, including how they are used in jewelry and what makes different stones unique.
