Begin your day with a scenic drive from Yerevan to the Stone Lake (Kari Lake) at 3,200 meters. Pass by the former high-altitude astrophysics research station, a unique landmark of Soviet scientific heritage.
From Kari Lake, embark on a 4-kilometer hike to the South Summit of Aragats, with an elevation gain of about 650–680 meters. The ascent takes around 2.5 hours at a relaxed pace. Along the way, experience alpine meadows, subalpine vegetation, and views of shepherd camps and grazing flocks. Spot Armenian Gampr mountain dogs guarding the herds and enjoy the high-altitude wildlife and birdlife.
At the summit, take in spectacular views of the extinct volcanic crater and the three neighboring peaks: North Peak (4,095 meters), West Peak (4,007 meters), and East Peak (3,916 meters).
Begin your descent, enjoying views of the Ararat Valley and Mount Ararat if visibility is good.
