6 Day Bhutan Himalayan Sunrise Sunset Photography Expedition

Capture Bhutan’s Himalayan beauty through sunrise and sunset photography, from Paro and Punakha to peaceful Phobjikha, local villages, mountain landscapes and the iconic Tiger’s Nest.
Day 1 – Paro Arrival → Thimphu

Arrive in Paro and meet your private driver and local photography-oriented guide. Enjoy the scenic drive to Thimphu through Bhutan’s mountain landscape. After check-in and some rest, take a relaxed walk through the city, photographing traditional buildings, prayer flags, markets and everyday local life. As the afternoon light softens, finish your first day with a peaceful sunset photography session.

Day 2 – Thimphu → Dochula → Punakha

Begin early with a quiet morning photography session before breakfast. Drive towards Punakha through pine forests and winding Himalayan roads. Stop at Dochula Pass to photograph the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, prayer flags, forests and mountain views. Continue to Punakha and explore the impressive Punakha Dzong, where the changing afternoon light creates beautiful views across the valley.

Day 3 – Punakha: Valley, Villages & Local Life

Start with an early photography walk through Punakha Valley as morning light reaches the mountains and rivers. Later, explore the dzong and surrounding countryside before visiting a nearby rural area. Walk through village paths, farmland and traditional homes while observing everyday Bhutanese life. With permission, capture natural portraits and genuine moments of local life. End the day with sunset views over the valley.
Overnight: Punakha

Day 4 – Punakha → Phobjikha Valley

Leave Punakha and travel through forests, mountain villages and winding Himalayan roads towards Phobjikha. The journey itself becomes part of the experience, with opportunities to photograph prayer flags, traditional houses, farmers, farmland and changing mountain scenery. After arriving and checking in, take an evening walk through the peaceful valley and enjoy a golden sunset over the surrounding landscape.

Day 5 – Phobjikha → Gangtey → Paro

Rise before sunrise and walk into the quiet Phobjikha Valley as morning mist begins to lift. Photograph farmhouses, fields, prayer flags and distant Himalayan ridges as the first light appears. After breakfast, explore Gangtey and the surrounding valley before driving back to Paro. Stop at scenic locations along the way for landscapes and local-life photography. If time and weather permit, enjoy a final golden-hour session in Paro.

Day 6 – Tiger’s Nest → Paro Departure

End your journey with the iconic hike to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger’s Nest. Follow the forested trail towards the monastery dramatically perched on the cliff, capturing the surrounding mountains, prayer flags, forest and permitted views of the monastery. After the hike and lunch, return to Paro and transfer to the airport, taking home photographs and memories of Bhutan’s landscapes, culture and everyday life.
