描述
Explore São Paulo’s diverse food scene with 12 tastings across Centro, Liberdade, and República. Join our small group tour limited to just 8 guests.
São Paulo is a city that was built by immigrants and fuelled by appetite. Japanese farmers, Lebanese merchants, and dreamers from every corner of Brazil arrived here carrying recipes, traditions, and ambitions. The result is one of the world's great food cities, where a humble sandwich can achieve legendary status and entire neighbourhoods are defined by what's cooking.
Our feasting tour of 12+ tastings explores the lantern-lined streets of Liberdade and the everyday rhythm of República, uncovering the flavours, stories, and communities that shaped South America's largest city.
Beneath the towering spires of Sé Cathedral, we begin as any sensible Brazilian would: at a bakery. Fresh *pão de queijo* emerges from the oven alongside a guava-filled version that perfectly captures Brazil's love affair with sweet and savoury combinations. A coconut-rich *queijadinha* completes the opening trio. It's a simple start, but in São Paulo, bakeries are practically a religion.
From there, we wander into Liberdade, home to the largest Japanese community outside Japan. Red lanterns sway above the streets, Japanese characters decorate shopfronts, and generations of immigrants have left an unmistakable mark on the neighbourhood. Along the way, we'll pass Praça da Liberdade and learn how figures such as Godmother Eunice and Dr. Shuhei Uetsuka helped shape the cultural fabric of modern São Paulo.
We'd rather not spoil all the surprises, but a sneak peek of our 12+ tastings includes some firm favourites. At a beloved pastel institution, we'll tear into crisp beef pastries served with fiery homemade chilli sauce. Nearby, a local eatery serves a uniquely Paulistano combination of miso-marinated pork, beans, potato salad, and jasmine tea, reflecting the remarkable fusion of Japanese and Brazilian food traditions that developed right here in Liberdade.
A short Metro ride brings us into República, once the elegant centre of São Paulo and still one of its most fascinating districts. Here, historic buildings, neighbourhood bars, and old-school eateries tell the story of a city that never stopped reinventing itself.
At one institution, we'll tackle a towering mortadella sandwich loaded with cheese and paired with an ice-cold *chopp* beer. Another stop celebrates the influence of São Paulo's Lebanese community through crisp *kibe* and spinach-filled *esfiha*, dishes that have become as much a part of the city's identity as football and traffic.
We finish with a *brigadeiro*, Brazil's favourite chocolate sweet, before concluding beside the magnificent Theatro Municipal. There's more to this São Paulo food tour than the food itself. It's a discovery and understanding of the immigrant communities, neighbourhood institutions, and local traditions that transformed São Paulo into one of the world's great culinary capitals. Whilst it's possible to eat well in São Paulo alone, you'd be hard-pushed to uncover these stories and flavours without our tastemaker guides.
