描述

This tour will take you to two places of interest located within the Bogotá savannah. The first stop will be Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral, and then the treasure hidden: Guatavita Lagoon.
Start off at Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral; a majestic cathedral built inside the bowels of the largest salt rock deposit on earth. This sight deserves every piece of its fame, and you will see the mysticism of the Muiscas, Catholic symbology and engineering power collide. Get ready for a magical tour through tunnels and vaults of incredible size.

Learn from your expert guide about the ways artists and sculptors have manipulated the materials found underground in this former salt mine, and about the meaning behind the works of art you will witness – including one of the most original interpretations of Catholic symbols on earth. After exiting the cathedral, head to the colonial village of Zipaquirá and walk by the main square, which is surrounded by several buildings that are declared national monuments, and spend some time at the local handicraft market.

Refuel with lunch at an authentic traditional foods restaurant - a former salt boiler that still keeps traces of the processes used here - before heading towards Guatavita. The town was named after the treasure hidden behind its mountains - The Guatavita Lagoon.

After walking through the cobbled streets of the “white-house village”, which holds a unique history, drive through potato crops and farmers' homes to where the sacred lake lies hidden among mountains and mist. Feel the mystic energy that made this lagoon a sacred place for the Muiscas and learn about the connection between these ancient people and nature.Note the way gold was used as a symbol of gratitude and the way that this particular practice performed by the Muiscas awoke the passions of Spanish bounty hunters and other unfortunate adventurers.

On the way back, experience a wonderful view over the Tomine Damp’s valley, and “Cerro de las tres Viejas." Stop at the town of La Calera by the side of the road and taste the typical “arepas” of yellow corn and cheese that lure every single car to stop along the way.
