From Heidelberg: Summer Dream & Time for the Soul: Short Trip to Lorsch and Ladenburg Private Group with Pickup (3 to 4 people)

Experience the atmosphere of the Middle Ages up close – in the open-air laboratory, in the World Heritage Site Lorsch Monastery, and in Ladenburg – one of the oldest towns in Germany.
We will pick you up at the agreed meeting point with a comfortable, air-conditioned van and begin our short trip towards Lorsch.

The Hessian Carolingian town of Lorsch is the historical highlight of this one day trip. The monastery grounds there have been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991 and were one of the most important intellectual and cultural centers of the Franconian Empire in the early Middle Ages.

Lauresham Open-Air Laboratory: A 4.1-hectare, walk-in 1:1 model of an early medieval manor. Here, the feudal lordship of the time, historical craft techniques, and the agricultural working world of the people in the 9th century are realistically depicted through experimental archaeology.

The Lorsch Königshalle (Torhalle): The world-famous landmark of the city is the only fully preserved monument from the Carolingian period north of the Alps. The facade, with its red and white sandstone, shows the original architecture from the 8th/9th century.

The basilica fragment: The preserved part of the former monumental abbey church gives an impression of the former size of the monastery.

After a lunch break, we relax a little more with a short drive with scenic views to Ladenburg, the enchanting little town often referred to as the "insider tip" in the Rhine-Neckar district, which combines history, automobile cult and romantic flair right on the banks of the Neckar.

The historic old town and the entire ensemble are under a historic preservation order. It is characterized by over 120 restored half-timbered houses (15th to 18th centuries), narrow streets, the market square and the remains of the medieval city fortifications with the Martinstor.

Together, we will find out why a monument was erected to the town goat of Ladenburg and also why the horse at the town gate lost its head.

The Carl Benz House and the oldest car garage in the world are also steeped in history: the former home of the Benz family is located right on the edge of Carl Benz Park. In the immediate vicinity is the world's oldest planned garage, built in 1910 in the style of a fortified tower.

All of this sounds like the perfect end to an eventful excursion! A relaxed return journey in a comfortable van offers the ideal opportunity to reflect on the impressions you have gathered.
