For curator and Egyptologist Dr. Wolfgang Wettengel, the story of the pharaoh and that of the discoverer Howard Carter are shrouded in many exciting myths: "The life and death of Tutankhamen and the discovery of his tomb and unique treasure can be experienced in an exhibition to this extent and with this intensity for the first time."

In 1332 or 1333 BC, Tutankhamun ascended to the throne at the age of nine as one of the last rulers of the 18th dynasty. His father Akhenaten introduced religious reforms that destabilized the empire, which Tutankhamun opposed. His origins and early death remain partly unexplained to this day; he presumably died after a short reign as a result of an injury and illness.

The discovery of his tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 is one of the most significant historical events. An extraordinary treasure trove was found, containing jewelry, artifacts, and the famous Golden Mask, which still fascinates people around the world today.
